EDI Statement
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at Hope for the Future
At Hope for the Future, we believe that everyone can help tackle the climate and nature crises. However, we know that not everyone starts from the same place.
Climate change affects different communities in different ways, and many people face unfair barriers when trying to have their voices heard in our democracy. We are committed to changing that.
To build a fair and hopeful future, equity, diversity, and inclusion must run through everything we do—from how we support local communities to how we hire staff and run our team.
What EDI Means to HFTF
Equity & Justice: Extra support where it’s needed
Equal treatment isn't always enough if people face different obstacles. For us, equity means giving extra time, funding, and resources to people and communities who face the biggest barriers to taking action. We work to break down those barriers so everyone can talk to their local representatives about climate change.
Diversity: Welcoming all backgrounds and experiences
Democracy works best when every community is involved. We value people of all races, ages, faiths, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities, neurodiversities, and social backgrounds. We actively work to bring different voices onto our team, our board, and into the groups we support.
Inclusion: Making sure every voice is heard
It is not enough to just bring people together—everyone needs to feel safe, valued, and listened to on their own terms. We continuously review how we work, adapt to individual needs, and make sure our workplace and our public projects are accessible, welcoming, and fair to all.
Our Commitments
A safe, fair workplace: We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, bullying, or harassment. We treat all staff, volunteers, applicants, and visitors with dignity, empathy, and respect.
Fair hiring and growth: We recruit based on potential and merit, giving equal opportunities to everyone. We regularly review our recruitment to make sure it is open and accessible to underrepresented groups.
Fair pay and flexible working: We support our staff with fair pay, clear policies, flexible working, and training opportunities to help everyone reach their full potential.
Listening and improving: Inclusion is an ongoing journey. We regularly review our processes, track our progress, and listen to feedback so we can keep doing better.
Zero Tolerance for Discrimination
We strictly follow the Equality Act 2010 and protect all staff, volunteers, and participants against discrimination based on age, disability, gender, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. Any concerns or complaints brought to us are taken seriously and handled immediately.
