Gwen Sugg Educational Scholarship Programme
The Gwen Sugg Educational Scholarship Programme was set up in memory of Julie Bartlett’s grandmother who sadly died in May 2004. Gwen was a Christian woman who was unable to receive further education because when she was a young person it was not an expectation or aspiration for a young woman to go to University.
In September 2004 we started our scholarship programme with 3 young ladies from the city of Iasi in North eastern Romania. Raluca Pintea received a scholarship from Hope for the Future to enable her to purchase books she needed for her academic studies. She was studying pharmacy and had an academic bursary for her university fees. Raluca received a scholarship to buy her books for 3 years. Raluca qualified as a pharmacist in 2007 and now works in Iasi hospital.
Each year we are able to help several young people with their educational costs.
Here’s a selection of our current scholarship beneficiaries:
Maria, in Ecuador, is studying at Saturday school because during the week she works as a teaching assistant. Her general education was delayed because she spent many years caring for her disabled sister while her other siblings attended school.

Mazo
Mazo, in Ecuador, is at university studying to become a lawyer - when he qualifies in 2 years time he will be the only black lawyer in his area.

Lkhamaa
Lkhamaa, in Mongolia, is studying music in UlaanBaatar - her dream is to write original worship songs in Mongolian. Lkhamaa is in her second year at University and has at least another 2 years before she completes her degree without her scholarship Lhkamaa would not be able to fulfil her dream!
Just £25 per month will covers a scholarship for either university fees or books/materials.
